Phillies Expected to Name Mattingly Manager

The Phillies are reportedly expected to remove Don Mattingly’s interim tag and name him their full-time manager, with an announcement anticipated this week. Mattingly took over after Philadelphia fired Rob Thomson following a 9-19 start and led the club to a 79-55 record before the Phillies were eliminated by the Braves in the Wild Card Series. The move follows Alex Cora’s decision not to manage in 2027, after the Phillies explored pursuing him. Mattingly has said he is open to returning, though his willingness may depend on significant offseason changes, particularly to a bullpen that struggled to protect leads.
