Padres Sweep Cubs, Advance to Face Brewers

The San Diego Padres swept the Chicago Cubs in the National League Wild Card Series, winning Game 2 by 4-1 after an 8-0 opener. Gavin Sheets’ pinch-hit, two-run homer helped break open Game 2, and five Padres pitchers limited Chicago to one run across the series as the Cubs managed just eight hits in 18 innings. Xander Bogaerts and rookie catcher Ethan Salas also drove in runs. San Diego advances to face the 103-win Milwaukee Brewers in a best-of-five Division Series beginning Saturday in Milwaukee; the Padres went 4-2 against Milwaukee during the regular season.
