Mets' Soto exits after hand injury, X-rays negative

Juan Soto left the New York Mets' 7-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday, September 26, 2026, after being hit by a pitch on his right hand in the ninth inning. X-rays were negative. Manager Andy Green said Soto "got squared up on his hand pretty good" and did not know if he would play in Sunday's season finale. Soto was hit by Richard Lovelady's 91 mph sinker, immediately spun around and shook his right hand while walking toward first base, then turned back, was met by an athletic trainer and returned to the dugout. Soto is hitting .278 with 27 homers and 68 RBIs this season and has had two injured list stints for calf strains. Hindustan Times reported he was dealing with a right-hand contusion, had two singles and reached base three times before exiting, and was replaced by Nick Morabito. Anthony DiComo tweeted that X-rays came back negative, and Green was also quoted saying Soto "got dinged up good." Whether Soto plays in the season finale remains unresolved.
