Padres place Buehler on paternity list before NLDS

MLB Communications posted on X that it had approved placing Padres pitcher Walker Buehler on the Postseason Paternity List. "Buehler will be allowed to be away from the Club for a minimum of one day and a maximum of three days," the league said, with Randy Vásquez joining San Diego's NLDS roster in his place. David Vassegh wrote that "Buehler's are expecting their second child." The placement came Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, making Buehler unavailable for NLDS Game 1 against the Brewers; he had been on the Padres' initial 26-man roster that morning after San Diego swept the Cubs in the Wild Card Series. Robbie Ray starts Game 1. Buehler may miss up to three days; Monday is an off day before Game 3 at Petco Park on Tuesday. On return he replaces Vásquez. Joe Musgrove stayed on the roster and threw a scoreless ninth in Game 1, his first outing since 2024 after Tommy John surgery. Bob Nightengale of USA Today also reported the move. Contested: the wire summary says Buehler is likely unavailable for the series' first two games; other coverage leaves Game 2 unresolved pending the one-to-three-day window. Rated coverage is one center headline and none on the left or right; no partisan divide exists.
