Former Broncos GM John Beake, two-time champion, dies

John Beake, the longtime Denver Broncos executive and former general manager, has died at 87, the team announced. He joined the Broncos in 1979 and helped bring quarterback John Elway to Denver, later building teams that reached five Super Bowls and won back-to-back championships after the 1997 and 1998 seasons. During his tenure, Denver also won seven division titles and made numerous playoff appearances. After leaving the team’s front office, Beake worked in the NFL league office and NFL Europe and remained involved with the Broncos’ Ring of Fame committee.
