Rams Release Mevis After Overtime Loss to Bills

The Los Angeles Rams are releasing kicker Harrison Mevis and signing Blake Grupe from the New York Jets’ practice squad after their 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills. Mevis missed a 50-yard field goal and had a potential game-winning kick blocked by Greg Rousseau; Tyler Bass won the game for Buffalo with a 45-yard field goal after Josh Allen led the Bills into scoring position. Mevis has made five of nine field-goal attempts this season, while Grupe has a career field-goal rate of 81.9% and went 11-for-11 with Indianapolis last season. Rams coach Sean McVay took responsibility for a conservative third-down run that set up the blocked kick, saying he regretted not calling a play to keep the drive alive.
