Eagles Reportedly Sign Milton off Cowboys Practice Squad
The Philadelphia Eagles signed quarterback Joe Milton III from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad to the 53-man roster on Oct. 16, two days before facing the Carolina Panthers. The signing followed the team’s Oct. 15 announcement that starter Jalen Hurts was out indefinitely with a superficial blood clot in his calf; he had already been ruled out for Week 6. The clot was discovered before the Week 5 game against the Jaguars, when doctors cleared him to play; a follow-up ultrasound on Wednesday showed the clot had moved. The Eagles have not issued a return timeline. Tanner McKee is expected to start against Carolina, with rookie Cole Payton and Milton also in the quarterback room. Milton, a 2024 sixth-round pick by the New England Patriots who was traded to Dallas in April 2025, has appeared in five NFL games—one with New England and four with Dallas—for 424 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. In the 2026 preseason with Dallas he completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The move leaves Dallas without a quarterback on its practice squad and puts Milton with an NFC East rival ahead of the clubs’ scheduled meeting. Hurts’ return date remains unset.
