Southern Nazarene Football Player Dies After Injury

Southern Nazarene University sophomore safety Tyler Ulrich, 21, died Thursday, five days after sustaining a traumatic head injury during a game against Ouachita Baptist in Arkansas. His family identified the injury as a head injury, but the university has not released further details or a cause of death; the game was delayed while medical teams treated him before he was taken to a hospital. Ulrich, from Azle, Texas, was remembered by coaches and teammates for his faith, character and strength. SNU offered counseling and pastoral support to its community, canceled its upcoming game against Southwestern Oklahoma State, and community members organized fundraising support for Ulrich’s family.
