Michigan Sticks With Underwood at QB, Beck as Play-Caller
Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham said Bryce Underwood will remain the starting quarterback and Jason Beck will continue calling plays against Penn State, despite the offense’s struggles. Backup Tommy Carr took about half of the first-team practice reps during the open week, and Whittingham left open the possibility of using him in the game, but said no major changes are planned. Michigan’s offense has been held below 20 points in four of five games, and its turnover problems have been a central concern; Underwood has thrown four interceptions. Whittingham said the staff is working to tailor the offense to put its players, including Underwood, in a better position to succeed, while stressing that improving ball security is essential.
