Big Ten Admits Ball-Spotting Error in Oregon Loss
CONTESTED: none identified. The Big Ten said Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, that officials incorrectly officiated Oregon's final two-point conversion attempt in Saturday's 17-15 loss to UCLA at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. With 2:28 left in the fourth quarter, Brock Thomas threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Evan Stewart that cut the deficit to 17-15. Oregon went for two from the 3-yard line; Thomas advanced to about the 1-yard line before a facemask personal foul on the UCLA defense. The New York Post identified the player as linebacker Sammy Omosigho. Officials then spotted the second attempt at the 1.5-yard line. In its statement the Big Ten said that under the rule the ball should have been spotted half the distance to the goal from the end of the run of the first attempt, about the half-yard line, not half the distance from the original line of scrimmage. Oregon's second attempt was stopped short with 2:16 remaining, and the Ducks did not tie. The conference said it has been in contact with the officiating team from the game and will continue to emphasize consistent application of the playing rules. UCLA stood at 5-0; Oregon fell to 3-2.
