Will Wade said at SEC Media Days that LSU will follow SEC protocols on RJ Luis Jr., who did not travel to McNeese and has not been rostered. On Aug. 24, 2026 a Louisiana court granted Luis a preliminary injunction clearing him to play. A day later SEC leaders voted to bar athletes who declared for certain pro drafts or signed professional contracts. Luis went undrafted in 2025, signed brief NBA and G League deals, and never played a regular-season pro game. The court order and SEC rule conflict. Wade said LSU will not challenge the protocols. Greg Sankey filed an affidavit asking the court to uphold NCAA rules barring a college return. Violating the SEC rule risks a half-season coach suspension and a fine equal to 50% of the basketball operating budget. LSU's roster grew from 4 to 10; only 7 players appeared in a 63-60 exhibition win over McNeese. "If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. It's on me. I'm the one who made the decisions," Wade said. He is confident of a strong roster for the Nov. 3 opener against LSU New Orleans.

“LSU Won’t Challenge SEC Over RJ Luis”Wade's decision protects the whole roster instead of pushing one player through a shaky court order that might not hold up anyway.
LSU is right to avoid any fight with the SEC here since the rules on former pros are clear and the team has other eligibility questions already.
