El-Sayed Says Democrats Must Win Midterms by Massive Numbers
Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed said on NBC's Meet the Press, aired Sunday after a Friday taping, that Democrats must win the 2026 midterms by massive numbers. "Donald Trump has already threatened to do what he did in 2020, which is deny the outcomes of an election," El-Sayed said. "So, yes, we have to win by massive numbers." He told Kristen Welker, "I am concerned that Donald Trump and Mike Rogers are not committed to the institution of our democracy," adding that Rogers "insinuates that he didn't actually lose in 2020" and "talks about this mythical van that showed up in Detroit with a bunch of votes." Trump told NBC News on Saturday he would accept the results: "Of course I will. But we don't want cheating." A judge rejected 2020 Michigan fraud claims as "nothing but speculation and conjecture," and cases against 15 people charged in an alleged fake-elector scheme were later dismissed. The Trump administration demanded Wayne County turn over all 2024 presidential ballots. A New York Times/Siena poll shows El-Sayed leading Rogers by five points; Cook Political Report says a Senate majority is within reach for Democrats. El-Sayed said former Trump voters now back him because he wants them to have healthcare and is America first. AIPAC mailers and Together for Michigan ads this week targeted his comments on a March vehicle-ramming attack on a synagogue near Detroit.
