Vance Task Force to Cancel Subsidies for 760,000 ACA Enrollments

Vice President JD Vance announced on September 22, 2026, that a White House task force will cancel or halt subsidies for roughly 750,000 to 760,000 ACA enrollments. At a press conference with CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz, Vance said officials will do additional verification on about 419,000 people and expect most are fraudulently enrolled. The administration estimates about $2.2 billion in taxpayer savings, not independently verified. HHS Secretary Robert F. Open enrollment runs November 1 to January 15. CMS is imposing a six-month moratorium on new broker registrations and has issued hundreds of termination notices to agents and brokers.
