Trump Blames Sen. Cotton for Blocking Permanent Daylight Saving Bill
President Donald Trump urged Arkansas residents to call Sen. Tom Cotton in support of the Sunshine Protection Act, posting a number he said was Cotton’s and accusing the senator of blocking the bill; it remains unconfirmed whether the number belongs to Cotton. The measure would make daylight saving time permanent and end twice-yearly clock changes, and passed the House 308-117 in July but remains stalled in the Senate, with no vote scheduled before the November 3 congressional election. Cotton opposes the bill, warning that late winter sunrises could leave children traveling to school in darkness, and has noted that an earlier permanent daylight-saving-time policy was repealed. Trump argued that later daylight would benefit Americans and activities including golf, farming and hunting, while critics cite safety risks from darker winter mornings. The U.S. is still set to return to standard time on November 1.
