Trump Announces $90 Payments for Original Medicare Enrollees
President Donald Trump announced a one-time $90 payment to about 20.8 million Medicare Part B enrollees. White House officials said payments will arrive in early October by direct deposit or mailed check, with no application required. The standard 2026 Part B premium is about $202.90 a month. Funding comes from the $2 billion Medicare Improvement Fund Congress established in 2008. Medicaid-subsidized enrollees, income-surcharge payers, and Medicare Advantage enrollees are excluded; KFF says more than half of eligible beneficiaries have Medicare Advantage. Trump wrote that because he delivered on the issue, Americans can rest assured the $5,000 Trump Dividend will go to every U.S. citizen if Republicans win the Nov. 3, 2026 midterms, a plan needing Congress and estimated over $1 trillion. Sen. Ron Wyden called it Trump's latest attempt to bribe the American public, citing a $200 monthly premium and $20 billion extra to private plans and calling $90 one tank of Trump-inflated gas. Mike Young said the policy looks less like governing and more like Publishers Clearing House with a campaign logo. Larry Levitt of KFF said the fund language is quite broad and gives substantial discretion. The administration's authority to use the fund has been questioned.
