Vance Rallies in Alaska as Poll Shows Peltola Leading Sullivan
Vice President JD Vance flew into Fairbanks on Air Force Two with Sen. Dan Sullivan on Oct. 5, 2026, for a hangar rally at Fairbanks International Airport, his first Alaska visit. Before several hundred attendees, Vance spoke about 30 minutes mainly for Sullivan, who lost the August primary to Mary Peltola by 8 points, and for Rep. Nick Begich. The Nov. 3 election is weeks away. Vance called Sullivan a relentless advocate always asking what can be done for Alaska and said Peltola "doesn't show up for work, doesn't show up for you, doesn't show up to do her job." He added she "couldn't be bothered to show up for 1 in 5 votes," and the crowd booed. Sullivan, arriving with wife Julie Fate, said "We have some challenges facing us," especially high energy costs. Vance noted a $150 million Energy Department grid announcement; Alaska Watchman cited $400 million for more than 200 miles of Railbelt line. A protester was ejected shouting "You've got a pervert president!" Peltola's campaign said Alaskans will hold Sullivan accountable for failed policies and Iran war support while she works to lower costs and put Alaska first. The Trump 47 Committee organized the event. Trump is expected in Alaska soon to back Sullivan and Begich.
