Trump Has Not Decided on Repaying Funds for His Ads
President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Oct. 6, 2026, he has not decided whether to reimburse taxpayers for ads already aired under a $20 million Homeland Security contract with Maryland-based LMD Agency. AdImpact estimates put airings at roughly $10 million to nearly $12 million. Ads began late September during NFL broadcasts and on cable news, carry a Paid for by the US Government disclaimer, and include Trump saying America will never be a communist country. On Oct. 5 he posted that MAGA Inc. would pay for future Patriotic Ads; the group held more than $400 million by end of July. A White House spokesperson said the post was not referring to reimbursement and spent funds will not be repaid. An official said presidential public service announcements are nothing new and cited over $4.4 billion in Obama-era PR contracts. Chuck Schumer demanded the money be returned and a full investigation. John Thune said he likes the message but it should not use taxpayer dollars. Susan Collins called the move illegal; Thom Tillis said he hates it. Democratic senators wrote DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin seeking repayment. Trump called the ads really good promotion done by many presidents before and said we will decide. Whether spent funds are repaid remains unresolved.
