Brock Purdy threw four touchdown passes and finished 15 of 27 for 297 yards as the San Francisco 49ers beat the Arizona Cardinals 36-30, improving to 3-0. On the third play from scrimmage, Kyle Shanahan called a hook-and-ladder on third-and-12: Purdy threw 6 yards to Mike Evans, who lateraled 4 yards to Deebo Samuel, and Samuel scored on the 82-yard play for a 7-0 lead. Purdy then threw a 23-yard touchdown to Evans, and Christian McCaffrey’s 1-yard run to open the second half made it 23-6. Jacoby Brissett led an Arizona comeback with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Michael Wilson and a 1-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiyah Love after a muffed punt. After Josh Sweat was penalized for roughing the passer on third down, Purdy hit George Kittle for a 10-yard touchdown that made it 29-20. Purdy connected with Kittle again late to help close out the win. Evans left with injured ribs and Williams was carted off with a stinger. CONTESTED: none found among rated outlets.
