Russian Strike Kills Sailor, Injures Three in Odesa

Russian forces struck a Liberian-flagged civilian cargo ship docked in an Odesa region port on Oct. 3, 2026, killing one motorman sailor and injuring three other crew members. Thirteen crew members were evacuated to a safe location, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority reported. Emergency crews and port security personnel responded to secure the vessel and assess damage. The USPA said Russia has once again attacked a civilian vessel. It called this yet another deliberate strike by the Russian Federation against civilian shipping and said Russia continues to terrorize the peaceful merchant fleet and sailors who risk their lives every day for the sake of operating Ukraine's maritime routes. Coverage cites prior strikes: Sept. 10 on Somalia-flagged tugboat Tedy killing two Azerbaijani crew and wounding eight; June killing five Azerbaijani sailors; at least five Indian seafarers killed in recent months; Sept. 23 killing the captain of an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged cargo ship; and Sept. 17 killing the captain of a Tanzania-flagged vessel and injuring three. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed commercial vessels transport weapons, ammunition and fuel for Ukrainian forces. The record lists no right-rated headlines.
