Ukraine Launches Largest Drone Assault on Moscow

Ukraine launched what Russian officials described as the largest drone assault on Moscow since Russia’s full-scale invasion, with more than 1,600 drones reportedly intercepted nationwide, including about 450 directed at the capital. The attack damaged an oil-refinery facility and other infrastructure, caused fires and evacuations, and killed at least two people and injured about 20 in the wider Moscow region; Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said domestically produced long-range drones, including Flamingo and Pelican missiles, targeted Russian energy and logistics sites. Moscow accused Kyiv of trying to disrupt the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections and vowed to intensify strikes on Kyiv, although Russian authorities said voting largely proceeded and preliminary results showed the Kremlin-backed United Russia party dominating. Ukrainian authorities said Russian attacks near Kyiv killed at least four people, including children, while other strikes killed a priest, injured civilians and damaged a shopping mall in Zaporizhzhia; both sides denied deliberately targeting civilians amid competing claims about attacks on energy infrastructure and a reported agreement not to target such facilities.
