Six nonprofit legal services organizations have sued the Trump administration, alleging new policies are rushing unaccompanied migrant children through asylum and removal proceedings and undermining their access to legal representation. The groups say attorneys have received as little as 18 hours’ notice of asylum interviews, routine rescheduling has been restricted, and immigration judges have been ordered to finish detained children’s cases by Jan. 31, 2027. They argue the policies violate federal immigration and trafficking-protection laws, the Administrative Procedure Act and children’s due-process rights, and could expose children fleeing violence or trafficking to deportation without adequate preparation or counsel. The administration had not publicly responded in the reports provided.

No right coverage yet — a bubble gap.
Speeding up detained children's cases makes sense for clearing the backlog but limits on rescheduling still risk unfair outcomes.
These kids need enough time to find lawyers before their asylum interviews or the process is just a sham.
