Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland open 31-unit Houston housing for homeless
Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Tina Knowles celebrated the opening of the Knowles-Rowland House in Houston, a 31-unit permanent supportive housing development for people who have experienced chronic homelessness. The Midtown project pairs housing with services including case management, counseling, substance-use treatment and life-skills support; 16 units are designed for people with mobility or sensory impairments. Developed with Bread of Life and Temenos Community Development Corporation, the housing project repurposes the former Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, which Beyoncé and Rowland helped establish in 1999 with proceeds connected to Destiny’s Child’s first single. The center was damaged by Hurricane Harvey and a 2021 fire, and the opening renews the artists’ longstanding ties to St. John’s Downtown and their efforts to support the Houston community.
