Mamdani Heckled at October 7 Memorial
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was heckled by pro-Palestinian protesters during a Manhattan memorial marking the third anniversary of the Hamas-led October 7 attacks, where demonstrators also chanted and used megaphones. His anniversary statement condemned Hamas and mourned those killed and abducted, while focusing largely on Israel’s conduct in Gaza and accusing it of genocide and war crimes. Jewish organizations and Israeli officials sharply criticized the statement, while some protesters criticized Mamdani for attending a memorial centered on Israeli victims. Israeli Consul General Ofir Akunis invited Mamdani to a screening of a 47-minute film of footage from the attacks and said the mayor’s rhetoric fueled antisemitism.
