Gaza Ceasefire Holds but Trump Plan Stalls Over Disarmament Dispute
A year after Donald Trump's plan produced a Gaza ceasefire on October 10, 2025, central goals remain unmet. Hamas has not disarmed, Israeli forces control about two-thirds of Gaza (64.9 percent by June 2026 per OCHA, up from 53 percent), and reconstruction has barely begun. Gaza health ministry reports at least 1,400 Palestinians killed since; OCHA cites 1,431 deaths and 5,026 injuries as of Sept. 30. The IDF says five Israeli soldiers were killed. More than 1.2 million face acute hunger per IPC. Aid trucks averaged 227 a day through May 2026 per IPC/Reuters, below the 600 target; Israel says about 600 enter daily. Israel says it will not withdraw until Hamas fully disarms; Hamas rejects full disarmament. Netanyahu rejected the Board of Peace 15-point roadmap in August 2026. Chaired by Trump with Jared Kushner and Tony Blair, the board unveiled a $2.45 billion reconstruction blueprint in September; EU/UN put decade needs at $71.4 billion. An International Stabilization Force under Maj. Gen. Jasper Jeffers is not yet formed. Ramiz Alakbarov said Gazans "are asking to not live another winter in tents." Antonio Guterres on Sept. 22 backed a two-state solution. Several countries condemned Israel's E1 plan. Gaza's future is an issue in Israel's upcoming election.
