Utah State’s Taggart Taken to Hospital After Injury

Utah State linebacker and captain Harrison Taggart was taken by ambulance to University of Utah Hospital after a second-quarter tackle against No. 17 Utah. His head struck running back Daniel Bray's knee. His body went limp, then he moved his legs and arms slightly. Staff waved off a cart for an ambulance as players from both teams knelt. Aggies surrounded him on the stretcher. He raised his arm and index finger entering the ambulance. Officials said he was in concussion protocol and had a neck injury; no postgame update was given. Bronco Mendenhall called Taggart "the heartbeat of our program" and said he was not sure he was very effective, still thinking about him. Chapman Lewis said the team wanted to "boss up for him" after Taggart signaled he was OK. Utah won 33-0 and outgained Utah State 480-188. Taggart had five tackles before leaving and 13 in the first two games. Contested: AP reported a 16-0 deficit at the injury; ClutchPoints cited 26-0 at some point. Later hospital status was not in the record.

Taggart took a bad hit to the head on that play and I hope the hospital checks clear him quickly for the rest of the season.
