Trump Expected to Honor Musk, Tech Leaders
President Donald Trump will present the National Medal of Science to Elon Musk, Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang and Lisa Su, and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation to Michael Dell and Satya Nadella, at the White House Science: A New Golden Age Summit on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026. White House spokeswoman Liz Huston said the recipients are helping ensure America keeps leading the world in innovation. Reporting says this is the first time Trump has personally presented either medal. Musk left his DOGE role and called Trump's tax-and-spending bill a "disgusting abomination," leading to a public feud in which Trump threatened Musk's government contracts; they have since appeared together at a Sept. 29 tech lunch and at Trump's state dinner for Xi Jinping. CNBC reports each recipient contributed to Trump or Republican causes, including over $290 million from Musk to the 2024 campaign, and that Trump's disclosure showed share trades in SpaceX, Tesla, Nvidia, Microsoft, AMD and Alphabet. A week earlier, Trump said he signed a "morally binding" AI self-regulation document with tech leaders. The summit will focus on artificial intelligence, private-sector investment and scientific innovation. Trump's uncle John G. Trump received the National Medal of Science from Ronald Reagan.
