Campari Chairman Faces €1.29B Tax Trial Request
Monza prosecutors requested trial for Campari chairman Luca Garavoglia and Lagfin legal representative Giovanni Berto over alleged €1.29 billion in unpaid exit tax. They say Lagfin failed to declare about €5.3 billion in capital gains from 2018 to 2020 after an Alicros-Lagfin merger moved a 51% Campari stake to Luxembourg. Lagfin settled a separate Revenue Agency dispute in December for €405 million over four years; the criminal case continues. Contested: Attorney Giuseppe Iannaccone said "The trial will establish with absolute clarity that our clients are innocent." Lagfin said its case on the same facts was dismissed on statute-of-limitations grounds by decree dated July 9, 2026, and it will not suffer financial damage. Prosecutors still hold the €1.29 billion fraudulent declaration charge. MarketScreener UK dates the Guardia di Finanza share seizure to November 2025; advfn dates it to October 2025. A judge will set a preliminary hearing to decide trial or dismissal. Campari stock (BIT:CPR) was about 6.058 EUR and +9.39% year to date.
