Storm-Toppled Trees Kill Two in Alabama, Florida

A falling tree crushed a home on Monterey Drive in Birmingham’s Huffman area early Saturday, killing one person and trapping another inside. Firefighters freed the surviving occupant, who was treated at the scene and did not need hospital care. The incident occurred as weakened Tropical Storm Isaias moved across Alabama, where officials reported scattered damage and warned of continued heavy rain and strong wind gusts.
