Storms, Hurricane Isaias Disrupt Florida Flights
Severe storms caused thousands of flight delays and cancellations across the United States through the week, repeatedly affecting Florida airports, including Orlando, Miami, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale. The FAA warned that thunderstorms and Hurricane Isaias could bring further delays as the storm approached Florida’s Gulf Coast, with landfall forecast for late Friday or early Saturday; its advisory did not call for a general shutdown. Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport said it would suspend operations Thursday night until further notice, while other Gulf Coast airports urged passengers to check with airlines for updates. Travelers were advised to monitor flight and airline alerts, and passengers whose flights are canceled can receive a full refund if they choose not to rebook.
