Trump Reverses Hegseth Plan to Livestream Hasan Firing Squad Execution

President Donald Trump cancelled plans to livestream the firing-squad execution of former U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, set for Dec. 3 at 1 PM ET at Fort Hood. Trump said on Truth Social the execution will proceed without a stream and that immediate families of victims may attend in person if they choose. Hasan killed 13 people, including a pregnant soldier and her unborn son, and injured 32 others in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. The plan, linked to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, drew bipartisan criticism. Vice President JD Vance said he would not watch. Trump called Hasan a traitor and a very bad and evil man. He said streaming might have been a strong deterrent but many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, and that families deserve to witness justice. Trump said the FBI intercepted electronic communications between Hasan and Anwar al-Awlaki before the attack. Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey wrote the reaction was bipartisan and that a stream could make Hasan a sympathetic figure. Rated coverage did not dispute the cancellation, the Dec. 3 schedule, or the 13 killed and 32 injured. The execution remains set for Dec. 3.
