Broncos' Patrick Surtain Exits 49ers Game With Ankle Injury
Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II, a two-time All-Pro and 2024 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year, left Sunday's Oct. 4, 2026 game at the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara late in the second quarter after a non-contact injury. The team listed an ankle injury; he was helped to the locker room, listed questionable, and did not return. Sean Payton gave no further update at halftime. Riley Moss hurt his ribs in the first half and was ruled out. Jahdae Barron replaced Surtain; CBS Sports said Kris Abrams-Draine also needed to step up. In the third quarter Pat Bryant was carted off with an apparent leg injury after a 30-yard gain; Courtland Sutton called for trainers. ESPN's Adam Schefter posted: "And now Broncos WR Pat Bryant has been carted off due to a leg injury." Bryant had six catches for 86 yards and a touchdown through three games. He left a game on a cart last December against Jacksonville and was released the same day with a concussion. Wire summaries had the teams tied 3-3 at halftime; Athlon Sports said Denver trailed 10-3 late in the third. The wire described Surtain's injury as to the lower right leg while the team listed ankle. No other contested claims were found. Official severity updates were not in the record.
