Omar Lawyers Ask Justice Department to Return Seized Home Property
Rep. Ilhan Omar’s lawyers have asked the Justice Department to return property seized during a search of her Washington-area home, calling the immigration-fraud investigation baseless, politically motivated and unlawful. They say investigators failed to follow court-ordered safeguards intended to protect her constitutional rights and the separation of powers, and argue there is no basis to question her citizenship. Federal agents seized her phone, and authorities have issued more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas, including to some of her relatives; the investigation’s full scope remains unclear. The Justice Department rejected the lawyers’ claims, saying their letter contained false allegations and that investigators complied with court orders and legal obligations.
