Here’s What We Know About Ilhan Omar, the Raid at Her Home, and the Allegations
Homeland Security Investigations on Oct. 12, 2026 executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice at Rep. Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C. home. A DOJ spokesperson said the action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Fox News reported the probe concerns Omar's immigration paperwork; she came to the U.S. in 1995 as a 12-year-old refugee from Somalia. DOJ has not detailed the warrant's scope or subject. The raid came less than a month before the midterms and months after the Trump administration said it was investigating Omar. White House, DOJ, and DHS did not respond to Axios for comment. Omar said: "I'm ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced." Democrats' private text chains reacted with anger. Becca Balint said, "We expect more of this kind of thing," and that Trump will keep trying to intimidate Americans ahead of the midterms. Jared Huffman called it "some serious hate-baiting bullshit" and, asked if more is coming, said "Of course." Mark Pocan called Trump "the pettiest, worst human being." Nancy Mace posted on X cheering the raid and compared it to the 2022 FBI search of Mar-a-Lago. Hakeem Jeffries and deputies vowed oversight accountability; Jamie Raskin said Democrats will demand who authorized the search. DHS faced separate controversy the prior week over a statement targeting Janelle Stelson.
