Cunningham Criticizes WNBA Officiating After Reese Incident
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham criticized the officiating during Atlanta’s semifinal sweep of New York, arguing Angel Reese should have received a technical foul for following Sabrina Ionescu and yelling at her after a hard screen. Cunningham said she respects Reese’s competitiveness and support for teammates, but contended that pursuing an opponent that way should draw a technical and also called some of Reese’s physical play dangerous. Reese and Liberty forward Jonquel Jones were both assessed technicals after a separate confrontation, while Reese was not penalized for the exchange with Ionescu. Atlanta advanced to face the Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA Finals.
