Former Anchor Sentenced to Life for Mother’s Murder
Former St. Louis television news anchor Angelynn Mock, 48, was sentenced in Wichita to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 25 years, for the 2025 stabbing death of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers. Mock pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in August. She initially told police she acted in self-defense, while investigators reported Avers was found with multiple stab wounds. Mock’s stepfather told investigators she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and later schizoaffective disorder; she was found incompetent to stand trial before receiving treatment and later being ruled competent. At sentencing, family members described the killing as devastating and urged that Mock remain imprisoned.
