Gunfire Erupts at Georgia Homecoming Party, Killing Two and Injuring 35
A shooting at a homecoming block party on Pine Street in Vienna, in Dooly County, Georgia, early Sunday killed two men, ages 20 and 23, and injured as many as 35 people. More than 1,000 people attended. Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls confirmed the victims' ages to reporters. Sheriff Craig Peavy told WALB and WMAZ gunfire erupted at two locations about a block apart and that shots were fired at about 50 people while deputies were already monitoring the crowd. About 25 people were taken to hospitals. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Dooly County Sheriff's Office. Sources differ slightly on timing: around 1:15 a.m. in one account tied to the coroner, and around 1:20 a.m. in accounts tied to the sheriff. Injury figures are given as up to 35 injured, with about 25 hospitalized; WSB reported the GBI said 35 people were injured Sunday morning. Authorities have not announced a suspect or possible motive, and the dead have not been publicly identified.
