Israeli Strikes Kill Five in Gaza City
An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City killed five people, including Greek Orthodox women Maysa Abu Daoud, 55, and her daughter Mary al-Najjar, 36, who had recently moved from a church shelter to a rented apartment. Their deaths drew expressions of grief and condolences from Pope Leo XIV, Jerusalem’s Latin Patriarch Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, and Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya. In separate Israeli strikes, three people whom the military identified as Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas operatives were killed, and the IDF said it destroyed four weapons-storage sites; it also said a Hamas battalion commander accused of holding former Israeli hostages was killed in an earlier strike. In the West Bank, medics reported at least nine people wounded by Israeli forces and settlers during olive harvesting near Ramallah, while separate reporting said a Palestinian was killed in a settler attack near Burqa. One report said more than 1,400 Palestinians had been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began, with hundreds of thousands still displaced.
