Mayfield Sits Practice, Expected to Test Thumb
Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is recovering from a dislocated thumb that has kept him out of the last two games. Reports conflict over whether he was set to test the thumb in a Wednesday throwing session; another report said he had not resumed throwing and was not practicing. Coach Todd Bowles said the team would assess Mayfield’s grip and throwing before considering a return and that he would not play unless fully healthy. His return for Week 6 against the Steelers appears unlikely, with backup Jalon Daniels expected to start.
