Martínez Criticizes Manchester United Leadership After Defeat
Manchester United lost 2-0 to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League after conceding inside the first minute and having Leny Yoro sent off, extending their winless run to five matches. Defender Lisandro Martínez criticized the club’s leadership, particularly technical director Jason Wilcox, saying United needed greater investment and a stronger squad to compete at the highest level. He acknowledged that the players also needed to improve, defended manager Michael Carrick and said blame should not fall solely on the coach or players. United have three points in the Champions League league phase and are 13th in the Premier League. Carrick said he had not seen Martínez’s remarks, declined to discuss them in detail and urged the team to stay united and prepare for its next game.
