Howard Demands Accountability After Maryland Team's Racist Image
Howard University club tennis players are demanding stronger accountability after tournament materials distributed by the University of Maryland’s club team showed Ku Klux Klan figures on an altered Maryland flag. UMD suspended its team indefinitely, forfeited its matches, apologized, and referred the incident for university and police review; it also plans sensitivity training. Howard players say those steps are insufficient and have called for a public apology to Howard, an investigation into who made the material, safeguards to prevent similar incidents, and a donation of tournament funds to an African American history museum. Players described the image as deeply harmful and said the incident underscores the need to confront racism rather than move on after an apology.
