UCF ties scoring record as new starting quarterback leads rout of Bethune-Cookman

UCF opened its season in dominating fashion, tying a program record by scoring 73 points in a 73-6 rout of Bethune-Cookman in Orlando, and also setting a new high-water mark for margin of victory. Quarterback Alonza Barnett III led the offense in his Knights debut with 158 passing yards, two total touchdowns, and an interception, while Duke Watson added a 64-yard rushing TD and finished with 110 yards. The Knights scored early and often, reaching a 31-0 lead on their first three possessions, and finished the game with contributions from eight different players including defensive touchdowns. UCF’s defense controlled the game with multiple turnovers and a punt-to-score sequence, limiting Bethune-Cookman’s offense until the Wildcats spoiled the shutout on the final play. The win extended UCF’s dominance in the series, marking the ninth straight victory over Bethune-Cookman dating back decades, and it also included a reported $400,000 payout to the visiting program.
