Ozone Alerts Span Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona
Ozone alerts are in effect or expected across several metro areas: Dallas–Fort Worth and Maricopa County, Arizona, on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and Oklahoma City and Tulsa on Friday, Oct. 9. North Texas’ alert covers 13 counties and remains in effect until Wednesday evening, while Arizona officials say ozone may exceed the federal health standard. Ground-level ozone can irritate the lungs and worsen asthma and other respiratory conditions; children, older adults, people with lung disease, and those exercising or working outdoors are especially vulnerable. Officials recommend limiting strenuous outdoor activity during alerts and reducing pollution by driving less, carpooling or taking transit, avoiding drive-through idling, and walking or biking when practical.
