IEA Accelerates Remaining 100 Million-Barrel Oil Release
The International Energy Agency says it will complete the remaining 100 million barrels of oil releases pledged in March, after about 330 million barrels have already reached the market; because some members exceeded their commitments, the total release is expected to surpass 400 million barrels. The effort is aimed at easing tight energy markets, with the IEA and G7 placing particular emphasis on diesel amid disrupted supplies. The IEA has called on members to speed up outstanding releases, consider additional diesel stocks, and increase production and refining where possible; a further 20 million barrels of diesel has been identified for rapid mobilization. Analysts say the effect on prices will depend largely on how quickly the stocks reach the market, and that releases may ease near-term pressure without resolving underlying supply shortfalls.
