Arcadia Couple Arrested in 21-Child Abuse Probe
Silvia Zhang and Guojun Xuan were arrested October 6, 2026, in a raid on their nine-bedroom Arcadia home. DA Nathan Hochman and Sheriff Robert Luna announced child-abuse and conspiracy charges and sought $100 million bail over gravity and flight risk. Of 21 children ages 2 months to 13 years, 15 were removed from the home and six located elsewhere. The case began when Zhang took a 2-month-old with a traumatic head injury and brain bleed to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Police say video showed nanny Chunmei Li shaking and striking the infant and nannies beating children in a classroom-like room. Li fled to China and remains at large. The pair was held in May 2025 on suspected felony child endangerment then released without charges. A complaint lists 10 counts and 55 overt acts of conspiracy to commit child abuse. The home had 32 motion-activated cameras. Hochman called it "a house of horrors." Attorney Mitchell Krems said: "My client is innocent. It is the nanny's wrongdoing who went on the run. He is being targeted for exercising his constitutional right to have a large family." ABC7 quoted a warrant: the baby "cries for a few seconds until a thud or hit is heard," "crying suddenly stops," and after an "attempt to wake him up" had "no success," Li did "shake him."
