Giraffe calves draw attention across Kenya, US
A video of two Maasai herders walking with an orphaned giraffe calf in Kenya has gone viral, drawing praise for their care as well as calls for wildlife authorities to assess the calf’s welfare and possible reunion with its herd; details about how it became separated remain unclear. In Kansas, Milani, a premature giraffe delivered by C-section after her mother became critically ill, has joined her herd following months of intensive care and is now standing and walking independently. At the Toledo Zoo, baby giraffe Stanley recently ventured outdoors with his herd and delighted viewers with his wobbly, energetic “zoomies.”
