Delta Delays Riyadh Route Amid Attacks, Weak Demand
Delta postponed its planned nonstop Atlanta–Riyadh service, originally scheduled to begin Oct. 23, 2026, until March 2027, delaying what was expected to be the first nonstop commercial route between the United States and Saudi Arabia. The decision comes as Houthi-claimed missile and drone attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport intensify; the strikes have killed at least a dozen people, injured hundreds, disrupted operations and included an attack on a passenger terminal. The FAA has warned U.S. airlines about flight-safety risks in and around Saudi Arabia linked to military activity and navigation systems. Delta cited safety concerns and evolving regional conditions, while reaffirming its long-term commitment to serving Saudi Arabia; the route also faced weaker-than-expected ticket sales amid regional conflict. Affected customers can review rebooking or refund options through Delta.
