AMD explores Samsung foundry partnership amid shortages
AMD CEO Lisa Su says the company is exploring deeper cooperation with Samsung Electronics in memory chips and contract manufacturing as strong AI data-center demand tightens memory supplies. The discussions build on a March memorandum to expand memory-supply collaboration and consider Samsung as a foundry for future AMD products; no manufacturing agreement has been announced. AMD has also identified Samsung as a priority supplier of HBM4 memory for a next-generation AI accelerator. Su said AMD is working with customers to use memory more efficiently and urged suppliers to expand capacity, while describing South Korea’s chipmakers, including SK Hynix, as important to AMD’s data-center plans.
