Chilean novelist Isabel Allende won Spain’s 2026 Planeta Prize, receiving €1 million for The Hour Before Dawn, a sequel to The House of the Spirits. The novel follows Alba as she faces the aftermath of imprisonment and torture under Chile’s dictatorship; Allende said its themes of authoritarianism and threatened democracy feel especially timely.
