Minnesota Man Charged in 1995 Iowa Cold-Case Killing

Kelly Grant, 59, of Bertha, Minnesota, has been charged with first-degree murder in the 1995 shooting death of Angela Renee Buck, 37, of Waterloo, Iowa. Turtle hunters found Buck's body beside a creek east of Waterloo on Aug. 11, 1995. An autopsy determined she died from a gunshot wound. Investigators say Buck had been at a Waterloo home with Grant and others shortly before her death, and a witness reported seeing Grant and another man force her into a vehicle. Investigators cite Grant's changing accounts and his acknowledgment that he and another man put Buck in a vehicle around the time of the killing. The complaint alleges the killing was over suspected theft. Investigators also identified a possible motive involving a belief that she was providing police information about drug activity. Contested: none found. Iowa and Minnesota agencies collaborated on the arrest after years of investigating leads. The case remains under investigation. Grant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
