Train Strikes Overturned Minibus Near Channel Tunnel
A freight train struck a minibus carrying Heavy Goods Vehicle drivers on the evening of October 15, 2026, at the Eurotunnel loading platform in Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais, on the French side of the Channel Tunnel. The Pas-de-Calais prefecture said the minibus had been headed to board a Le Shuttle train, that early reports suggested 19 people were involved including the driver, and that there were no fatalities and no one's life was considered in danger. A La Voix du Nord photograph showed a damaged minibus on the platform with police and staff present as injured people received treatment there. Early reports described five people as critically or seriously injured, while authorities stated that no injuries were life-threatening. Eurostar said an incident several kilometres from the Channel Tunnel did not involve or impact its London services and that all of its trains would run as expected; two Eurostar departures on the London-Paris route were subsequently canceled that evening. Emergency response included ambulances, a helicopter-based medical team, border police, and Eurotunnel resources placed under the prefect's authority. Authorities have not detailed the cause of the minibus overturning. A press briefing was scheduled at Eurotunnel headquarters, with the local deputy prefect expected to provide further details.
